Arctic Lace: Knitted projects and stories inspired
by Alaskas native knitters by Donna Druchunas The approximately
250 Native Alaskan members of the Oomingmak Musk Ox Producers Co-operative
harvest the ultra-fine, ultra-soft underdown of musk-oxen, known as qiviut,
and use the resulting yarn to knit lace garments whose designs are inspired by
traditional designs and culture. Author Donna Druchunas has traveled to Alaska
and brought back her experiences with these knitters and their wonderful textiles. Further

Spinning in the Old Way: How (and why) to make your
own yarn with a high-whorl handspindle by Priscilla Gibson-Roberts Spinning
in the Old Way is a wonderful introduction to the craft of spinning. It presents
a simple, easy-to-master skill-set that requires only four tools to create your
own yarn: a high-whorl (or other) spindle, a yard of commercial or other ready-made
yarn, fiber, and practice. Further details |

Knitting in the Old Way: Designs and techniques from
ethnic sweaters by Priscilla Gibson-Roberts & Deborah Robson Imagine
freeing yourself from the tyranny of line-by-line patterns written for somebody
elses taste and body shape. I call it off-road knitting, and
thats exactly what Priscilla Gibson-Roberts and Deborah Robson teach in
this recently expanded classic. Clara Parkes, in Knitters
Review Originally published in 1985 in a smaller edition, Knitting
in the Old Way presents a way of knitting rather than a finite set
of patterns. It empowers todays knitters to produce both everyday and heirloom-quality
sweaters without relying on line-by-line patterns. It teaches us to read the fabric
on our needles instead of the fine print of detailed instructions. Further

Simple Socks, Plain and Fancy by Priscilla
Gibson-Roberts I wonder if you should call these A-HA socks, because
once you get it, you want to say A-ha! and knit a dozen pairs. I dont
think Ill ever knit a pair of socks with any other heel or toe!
Ann Budd, author of The
Knitters Handy Book of Sweater Patterns and The
Knitters Handy Book of Patterns, and managing editor of Interweave
Knits This
guide demonstrates techniques for the construction and design of unique socks
that fit well. For those who already have the 2001 hardcover, the paperback edition
has been slightly revised. We tweaked the layout (page numbers dont correlate
precisely), slightly adjusted the text, and added a more thorough indexnot
enough to warrant repurchasing, but the new edition would make a great gift for
a friend! Sock freedom for all! Further details. |
